Institutional Care
Comprehensive protection and specialized support for children up to 4 years old, ensuring safety, affection, and essential stimulation while a new family path is built.
Guided by the motto “Welcoming to Educate,” we are one of the few institutions in Rio de Janeiro dedicated to receiving children from 0 to 4 years old under protective measures, referred by child-rights authorities. Here, they receive food, housing, healthcare, education, and psychological support until they are reunited with their own family or placed with a new family through adoption.
O Acolhimento Institucional funciona 24 horas por dia, com quatro equipes multidisciplinares, formadas por auxiliares de enfermagem e de berçário, assistentes sociais e psicólogas, que atuam em sistema de plantão 24hx72h. Trata-se de uma medida temporária e emergencial, definida pelo Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente, no atendimento a crianças em situação de vulnerabilidade social.
All children arrive at the institution through the Juvenile Court, and the work is regularly monitored by public bodies including the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Juvenile Court, Municipal Health Department, and Health Surveillance.
As a pioneer, Obra do Berço embraces the First 1,000 Days concept, which includes pregnancy, about 270 days, plus the first two years after birth, 730 days. During this period, our technical and support teams provide differentiated care, paying special attention to the baby’s physiological, cognitive, and emotional development, which will shape their growth into adulthood.
